Successful performance by Choir Zima at the 9th International Choir Festival in Herceg Novi
From October 3 to 6, 2024, the picturesque town of Herceg Novi, Montenegro, hosted the 9th International Choir Festival, bringing together ensembles from around the world. The festival became a highlight of the region’s cultural life, uniting performers from Serbia, Slovenia, Russia, Poland, and other countries. As part of the event, our choir Zima also presented its program, drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Choir Zima performed four pieces that showcase the diversity of our repertoire and the ensemble’s vocal abilities:
- Serenade, by S. I. Taneyev — a tender, lyrical piece filled with the melodic beauty of Russian classical music.
- Svete tikhiy, by A. Arkhangelsky — a sacred chant imbued with spirituality and solemnity.
- Miserere, by A. Lotti — a majestic and profound Baroque composition.
- Još ne svíće, a folk song arranged by M. Tešanović — an emotional Montenegrin folk song that closed our performance.
Every performance was met with warm applause, and the atmosphere in the hall was full of energy and emotion.
The festival took place at several venues across Herceg Novi, including Kanli Kula Park, the Church of St. Jerome, and the Amphitheatre. Choir Zima performed on October 5 at the revue concert at 15:30. Among the festival participants were:
- Choirs from Serbia: Nis, Petrovska State University Academic Choir, and others.
- Ensembles from Slovenia, Poland, Bulgaria, and Hungary.
The festival offered a unique opportunity to discover the cultural heritage of other countries and create an unforgettable musical atmosphere.
Choir Zima was awarded a silver diploma in the “Adult Choirs (C)” category by a jury of respected experts: Jeroen Beckers (Belgium), Jasenka Ostojić (Serbia), and festival president Nada-Nada Karadžić. Choir conductor Varvara Loyko received acknowledgements for her professionalism and craftsmanship.
Choir Zima’s artistic director, Varvara Loyko, commented on the festival:
“This festival was an important step in the development of our ensemble. We are glad that our work and talent were recognized by the jury and the audience. The silver medal is a great honor for us, and we are proud of our performance. Thank you to the organizers for the warm welcome, and to our fellow choirs for the collaboration and musical exchange. It was an unforgettable experience that inspires us to keep going!”
